The Human Library

The Human Library is a worldwide organization that attempts to break down social barriers that guard every day life. Teaching participants to “not judge a book by its cover,” the movement started in Copenhagen during the Spring of 2000. Since the event's kickoff, libraries all over have taken to hosting events similar to the original Library. To learn more about the movement, check out their website at http://humanlibrary.org.

Syracuse University's Human Library

Bird Library hosted their third annual Human Library event in April, which brought a plethora of volunteer books and participants. Books varying from improv guitar caricatures to surviving and overcoming depression were checked out for 20 minutes at a time, giving readers enough time to hear the stories and ask questions towards the end. To learn more about some books that participated, visit their tab at the top of the page.
